Addiction or Necessities

 

Our lives from grassroots level rose up on hilly paddy field of jhuming cultivation amongst greenary of tiny foothills. Our daily childish activities with siblings were tremendous moments. Catching of Rhinoceros beetles and bamboo beetles  (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) our parents always restricted us we may destroy the culm of rice plant of green and ripe rice paddy field . Stole young birds from nests to domesticate and searching for small birds' eggs dark and white spots, gave unending joys when found one or more. Handmade karosene lamps are most prevalent to light at night during dinner and on study hours, paraffin lamp are hardly affordable. 

Year after another we are promoted to higher class and getting into new spheres of living style and standard, all those sweet childhood memories are lost in shoreless ocean. As time flies on a new reign has dominated people mentally from top to bottom i.e. advanced technology of internet accessable smart phone. It becomes one of the most important tool daily basis activities. Exceeding attachment make distance among us when we get into home. We manage to live away from parents, siblings, relatives and love ones but not a mini second from smart device. We can easily live after splitting up with people around us but not from the smart device. 

We can't even think our lives for a while without power supply because it eases our survival in different terms. Power cut-off for a while can testify the mental state how people can be disturbance, it's like broiler animals in firm house. Modern era is full of advant tools to ease kitchen's work, cleaning dust or any other household chores but these are not in handy if power cuts-off. Almost every single piece of daily basis activities are inter-related which remains undone without it. 

Discontinuity of power supply and interrupted internet connectivity made me realise twice, firstly at khawzawl JNV as teaching staff on the onset of Covid 19 across the globe. Secondly at phuldungsei when the electrict wires tore up by falling down trees due to natural causes. Electricity wired up through the midst of hilly dense forest to light remote areas' houses. I can hear people in my neighbour they say "without current no work can be done". Washing machine is just useless, electric heater is just put back inside its package that manufacturer did. Some say I can't even talk with my friends, relatives and my family members who are away because of network interruption. 

These are just few examples about the domination of advent technology on human lives, how life becomes futile in absence of the technology or smart devices. Sometimes, I nostalgise the remembrance cemented in cold memory. Though childhood stage was full of fantasy and imagination, i.e play, eat and sleep. No heavy load on shoulder for necessities. It was a golden stage that can never reverse anymore.
